Biblical Storyteller Dennis Dewey Comes to FPC-Kingwood on Monday, Aug. 3

In the Beginning, Toward the Middle, and All the Way to the End, a performance of stories from the Old and New Testaments by Biblical storyteller Dennis Dewey will be at FPC-Kingwood on August 3, from 7:30-9 p.m.

Dennis Dewey has been telling biblical stories for 25 years. He has offered hundreds of performances and workshops all over the world.

“I have seen Dennis’ presentation at other congregations and it is a remarkable and truly memorable performance of the word of God,” says FPC-Kingwood Senior Pastor Dr. Jim Davis. “I highly recommend this seminar to all. You will not forget it.”

We know that the earliest stories of people of faith circulated in oral form for generations before being written down. Arising as breath and sound out of oral culture, the stories as presented here have something like the impact they must have had in preliterate culture, making use of dramatic space so that you may visualize the events and characters of the story.

By the time of the emergence of the gospels, writing was well established as a communications technology. Yet still the primary experience of the story was aural – hearing the stories told and read aloud. Even the “writings” of Paul were experienced as sound in their dictation and again in their “publication,” that is their reading aloud in public!

We encourage you to come and hear the stories as they were first experienced: as delightful, powerful, stimulating and entertaining invitations to faith in the God who is always faithful. Enjoy these wonderful, ancient stories, for they are the stories of our ancestors in the faith, our “family” lore, the tradition that tells something about who we are and whose we are.
