Conversations
Welcome to 2010 and welcome to our Year of Conversation!
We all know conversations can go on and on, but a year of conversation? You know how it goes; one person starts, another person joins in - maybe more; before you know it, everyone is sharing the news of the day with family and friends. In this digital age, we are flooded with different ways to have conversations - seeing friends at the grocery store, chatting before the school play, on the cell phone, video chats, Facebook, Twitter... it can become quite overwhelming. But what about old-fashioned conversation? Meaningful conversation? How ofen do you have one of those? And how often do you have a meaningful conversation with God? Maybe its been a while.
In the coming year, I’d like to focus on one passage of the Bible each week that shows us how to more deeply enter into a dialogue with God through prayer, just as the Patriarchs did. Through out the year, I hope that we might form prayer partnerships to help us better explore these dialogue opportunities and even start prayer journals. During Lent, we’ll go through the Lord’s Prayer and take it apart, phrase by phrase, in the sermon each week. Additionally, throughout the year there will be special events and guest speakers on prayer.
Our ultimate hope is that everyone better understands how prayer means living our lives in a conversation with God. We hope you will become so excited by this type of conversation that you might talk with your neighbors and ask them if you can pray on their behalf. Who knows where we might go with this?
What great conversations we’ll all be having!
