Board of Deacons
The primary function of the First Presbyterian Church-Kingwood Board of Deacons can be found in scripture: to provide sympathy, witness, and service after the example of Jesus Christ.
Deacons act upon their love of the Lord with gifts of service such as welcoming new members into the FPC-Kingwood family; visiting elderly members; serving Communion to home-bound members; delivering encouragement to those who are ill or shut-in; and bringing meals to families in times of need.
Mission Statement
The Board of Deacons is guided by a two-part mission statement:
- To glorify God by providing compassionate care, support, resources, and fellowship to the members of our families, church, community, and world; and
- To encourage individuals and their families in times of joy and sorrow as they seek God's healing power and grace through prayer, presence, counsel and tangible acts of service.
FPC-KINGWOOD Deacon Ministries
The Board of Deacons ministers to the congregation and community thanks to the generous support of church members. The Deacon ministry is funded through a "loose change" collection on the 3rd Sunday of each month; grocery store donations; and gifts from members.
Shepherd Groups - Reaching the FPC-Kingwood Family
The FPC-Kingwood Board of Deacons primarily provides ministry to Kingwood and the surrounding communities through 28 geographically-divided Shepherd Groups. To reach the FPC-Kingwood youth, there is also a Shepherd Group just for college-aged members.
Each Shepherd Group is led by a Deacon and Shepherd Group Leader(s) who together ensure that the people of the church are cared for and assured they belong to the family of Christ. Shepherd Groups help to develop a sense of community among church members by socializing and providing support to one another in times of need.
