Session

During the Biblical times of the Old Testament, elders were appointed to govern the people. The New Testament Church built upon that model by providing that people with particular gifts share in governing and ministry. Today, that tradition is carried forth at First Presbyterian Church-Kingwood, which is led in part by an elder board called the Session.

Elders, who are elected to serve the congregation for three-year terms, are ordained spiritual lay-leaders who work closely with the pastoral staff in ministry and support. Together, with ministers of the Word and Sacrament, they exercise leadership, government, and discipline and have responsibilities for the life of a particular Church—as well as the church at large—including ecumenical relationships.
